SU closes M. Phil to PhD conversion option, approves 24 M. Phil, PhD degrees to scholars

21.09.17 BASR MeetingJAMSHORO: The Board of Advanced Studies & Research (BASR), University of Sindh has closed the option of conversion of M. Phil to PhD and approved award of a total number of 24 PhD & M. Phil degrees to the candidates after fulfilling all the requirements and formalities.

This decision was taken in 129th meeting of Sindh University’s BASR held at Vice-Chancellor’s office here on Thursday.

Chaired by SU vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat, the meeting deliberated principally as to how standard and quality of research at the varsity could further be enhanced. A number of options were weighed and apprised; new avenues explored and significant decisions to this effect were made.

Dr. Burfat said he would shortly ensure implementation on the decisions that were made in the meeting after the relevant forums examined and finalized them.

He said that research was his highest priority as vice chancellor of the university to be conducted in every area adding that he had himself remained an active frontline researcher all his life as a professor of department of sociology and a major investigator of many projects run by various non-profit organizations.

“By virtue of that experience, I know how important research is for recognizing and easing social problems and uplifting the ranking of a university”, he maintained.

The vice chancellor further said he would make sure all statutory bodies met regularly and frequently to resolve the issues in time, the researchers were facing with.

“I urge upon research supervisors to accord maximum time to research scholars and projects so that the same may be initiated and wrapped up in time; for time is the most important factor in research as well as in life”, he added.

The board approved award of PhD degrees to 4 successful candidates upon completion of all requirements which include Muhammad Mujtaba (Mathematics), Sumera Qureshi (Chemistry), Shazia Abbasi (Information Technology) and Nooruddin Soomro (Plant Sciences).

The meeting also approved award of M. Phil degrees to 20 candidates including Munnaza Fatima Arain (Physical Chemistry), Huzoor Bux (Mathematics), Anum Arain, Muhammad Ashique Channa, Raja Kareem Bux Bhatti, Sehrish Khatri (Analytical Chemistry), Sumbal Saeed (Biotechnology), Aftab Hussain, Asma Laghari and Muhammad Yousif Seelro (Chemical Sciences), Abida Ali, Inayatullah and Niaz Ali (Chemistry), Bilquees Baloch and Noshaba Soomro (Freshwater Biology and Fisheries), Abdul Hameed (Islamic Culture), Aqeel Ahmed, Manzoor Ali, Syed Shafqat Ali Shah, Tehseen Ahmed and Farman Ali (Pharmaceutics), Abdul Razzaque (Public Administration), Saira Baloch (Business Administration) and Noor Ahmed (Environmental Sciences).

Earlier, Director Graduate Studies Dr. Ashique Hussain Jhatial and Director Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) Dr. Shahzad Ahmed Memon in their joint briefing to the meeting shared observations made by the team of Higher Education Commission, Islamabad during their visit to review the status of M. Phil and PhD programs at the University of Sindh.

As per HEC team observations, the meeting decided to formally close option of conversion of M. Phil into PhD program of studies forthwith; and resolved that for all earlier conversion cases detailed deliberations process will be initiated with HEC to find an appropriate and mutually agreeable way forward.

The meeting also discussed other areas as pointed out by HEC Review Team. Those areas included registration, supervision, panel formation, evaluation, defense, award, infrastructure, resource, backlog, discrepancies and course work problems.

SU announces admissions to BS, MS, M. Phil, PhD programs for academic year 2018

JAMSHORO: Sindh University Jamshoro has announced admissions to all the disciplines of BS, MS, M. Phil & PhD degree programs for the academic year 2018.
