SU’s selection board picks 58 teachers for promotion to grade 20 & 21

JAMSHORO: The Sindh University Selection Board recommended promotions of 58 faculty members to grade 20 & grade 21 as associate professor and professor respectively here on Tuesday.

Chaired by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abida Taherani, the Sindh University’s selection board in its 164th meeting held at VC Office recommended promotions of 28 associate professors and 30 professors on the basis of required criteria including educational qualification, teaching experience and research papers.

Among secretary of selection board Registrar Ghulam Muhammad Bhutto, the members justice retired Deedar Hussain Shah, Ghulam Hussain Shah, Dr. Baz Ali Junejo and Kalsoom Chandio.

Those who were recommended for the promotions as associate professor in grade 20 include 18 from faculty of natural sciences, 5 from social sciences, 3 from commerce & business administration and one from faculty of arts and one from faculty of pharmacy.

The 30 associate professors who were recommended for promotion to professor in BPS-21 include 11 from faculty of natural sciences, 14 from social sciences and 5 from faculty of commerce & business administration.

The recommendations of Sindh University’s selection board will be sent to the varsity’s syndicate, which will accord approval of these recommendations. Later, the official notification of the promotions will be issued by the registrar of the varsity.

Post Graduate Examinations at SU affiliated colleges postponed due to monsoon rains

JAMSHORO: Controller of Annual Examination University of Sindh Ghulam Murtaza Siyal has informed that the annual exams of M.A/M.Sc/M.Com (Previous & Final) Post Graduate, 2014 has been postponed by dint of monsoon rains in the province.
According to a press release issued here by P.R Office, the controller informed that the exams of post graduate at affiliated colleges scheduled to be held from July 30, 2015, have been postponed due to heavy monsoon rains in the province.
The examination will now be held from August 11, 2015, while the detailed date-sheet will be issued later.

Sindh University: 72 contract employees in grades 2 to 5 regularised

IMG_8680JAMSHORO: The Vice-Chancellor of Sindh University Prof. Dr. Abida Taherani on Monday has regularised 72 contract employees in BPS (Basic Pay Scale) 2 to 5 working in different departments of the varsity.

A total number of 72 employees in BPS-2 to 5 who successfully completed their contract of two years had been regularised on Monday, SU spokesman Nadir Ali Mugheri said. According to a press release issued here by the University spokesman, the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abida Taherani had ordered the authority concerned to regularise all those employees recruited under the contract appointment policy in BPS- 2 to 5, who have completed their two years of service in the university.

The registrar prepared the regular orders of 72 employees on the recommendation of a committee constituted by the Vice-Chancellor in this regard. Dr. Abida Taherani distributed the orders among the employees.

VC on the occasion said that the regularization of services of the employees was their right and they had been given their right by the University authority.

“Don’t thank me, thank God Almighty who blessed you with regular job in the varsity,” she said. “It is your duty now to pay back by rendering your services in befitting manner”.

She directed the employees to work honestly for the betterment of their university.

Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro appointed as PVC of SU Laar Campus Badin

Mohd Siddique KalhoroJAMSHORO- Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan has appointed SU Professor Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Sindh University Laar campus Badin for the period of two years.

SU Registrar Ghulam Muhammad Bhutto has issued a notification in this regard which said, “The Chancellor of Universities in Sindh/ Governor Sindh is pleased to appoint Prof. Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro as the PVC of Sindh University Laar campus Badin for the period of two years”. Earlier Dr. Kalhoro was working as campus coordinator of the campus.

It may be noted that after doing his masters with first class first position in 1987, he was appointed as lecturer and then he completed his PhD from UK in 1999. Currently he is working as meritorious professor in grade-22 at Sindh University Jamshoro.

1000 laptops distributed among SU students

IMG_8662JAMSHORO: As many as 1000 laptops were distributed among the students of bachelor & masters’ degree programs of the University of Sindh under the Prime Minister’s Laptops Scheme at a ceremony in the institute of business administration here on Wednesday.

Among others, the representative of higher education commission (HEC) Naeem Ahmed, teachers and a large number of students were also present in the ceremony.

SU IBA director and focal person for PM’s Laptop Scheme at Sindh University Dr. Imamuddin Khoso inaugurated the laptop distribution ceremony by giving away 10 laptops to the students. Thus a total number of one thousand laptops were distributed among the deserving students of the varsity.

On the occasion, Dr. Khoso said: the students should play a positive role for the country’s development as they had to shoulder the future responsibilities.

He thanked the federal government for facilitating students of the University of Sindh adding that many students had benefitted from the Fee Reimbursement Programme of premier and also that of laptop scheme.

The focal person said it was the wisdom & vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif who introduced laptop scheme for the students and scholars of the universities in the country by which the research culture on the campuses will be promoted.

He said over 1, 00000 laptops had been purchased by the HEC under the vision of prime minister and a total number of 7035 laptops had been given away only to Sindh University for its students.IMG_8663

“With this decision of federal govt. the scholars & students will be able to conduct research through internet and give good results, which will enhance the quality of higher education in the university, I believe,” he said.

Dr. Khoso said the scheme was in its 3rd phase under which the laptops were being given to students of Bachelor & Masters’ degree programme.

He expressed hope that the students who received laptops will do their best to promote research on the campus and get benefit from the tens of thousands e-books, research articles and thesis which are available on the internet.

“The scholars can now ensure their access to the electronic books (e-books), other research material, newspapers and magazines which are available online,” he said.

He said that SU received 7035 laptops in total out of which 1300 were given to the scholars of M.Phil/M.S & PhD while in Phase-III, 5700 laptops along with internet device evo had earlier been given to deserving students.

“In the continuation of phase-III, this time a total number of 1427 laptops are being given away; today, we have distributed one thousand laptops, with internet device evo and bag while the remaining 427 laptops would be given away tomorrow (Thursday)”, said Dr. Imamuddin Khoso.
